The Altes Land is the largest fruit growing area
in Europe and a great area to bike in. |

| The
Altes Land ("The Old Country") is located on the other side of the Elbe river from
Hamburg and a bit west. Here is the sign that welcomed us. |

is Kirsten with friend Tay Peck (front) and a friend of Tay's. We (along with Jim) took our
bikes to ride around the area. |

| Some
of the many apple blossoms in the Altes Land. The marshland in the area was dyked and made
fertile as early as in the 12th century, and today the fruits and vegetables from the area
are exported all over the world. |
 |
| The
weekend we went to the Altes Land (in May 2004) was the weekend of the Blossom Festival in
Jork, the main town in the area. There is a parade in town, and here is the float with the
Blossom Queen. |

years old. Jork is the center of the area's spring and fall festivals. |

picturesque fruit store in the Altes Land. Jim decided to take a rest after doing some browsing
inside. |
