The
Schwangau area holds many
treasures, from the lovely Plansee to Ludwig's most famous castle. |

 |
| The
Plansee, just over the Austrian border, featured this lovely red tree
along our drive from Garmisch to Neuschwanstein. |

 |
| Hearing
the cow bells ringing added lovely ambiance to our hike near Neuschwanstein. |

 |
 |
| Ludwig's
most famous castle, Neuschwanstein, looks very old but was actually
built between 1869 and 1886 by "Mad" King Ludwig II (who
almost bankrupted Germany with his extravagant building. The castle
was later the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty castle. |
 |
 |
| Neuschwanstein's
neighbor, and Kind Ludwig's childhood home, Hohenschwangau (built
in 1832-36). |
