Due to a work conference for Jim, we
had the opportunity to visit the lovely
city of Munich for a long weekend in
January 2002. |

| The late-Gothic Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) is Munich's trademark, built
1468-1488 and housing the tomb of
Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian. |

| Another famous site in Munich is the
Glockenspiel at the Neues Rathaus. |

The Frauenkirche may be Munich's
trademark, but one of the best-known
sites in Munich is the famous
Hofbräuhaus with its large wooden
kegtop in the entryway (above). It's
famous as a place to see tourists trying
to drink a Mass (1L mug) of beer, and
for its importance in history as the site
of the first large meeting of the National
Socialist Party in 1920.

| A must-see in southern Bavaria is Neuschwanstein,
Ludwig II's fairy tale castle that inspired Disney's
Sleeping Beauty castle in Disneyland. But
getting good photos of the castle is not so easy -- we
almost slid off the hill on ice while getting this one! |
