Our first weekend trip was to Kassel, located 1.5 hours north of Frankfurt. Its claims to fame are that the Brothers Grimm lived there for 25 years and that it has a beautiful park -- shown here!
The Habichtswald (Hawk Forest) below the main amphitheatre in the Wilhelmshöhe park. The Habichtswald has over 300m of hiking trails.
A view up to the main amphi-theatre in the park and the highest point in the city. In the summer, water cascades down the steps shown here.
The view from the amphitheatre down the hill into town. There are 449 steps down to the pool at the bottom (shown in the photo to the upper left).
Schloss Löwenburg, a castle in the park built in 1801 and modelled after a medieval Scottish castle.
