The Hexentanzplatz (Witches' Dance Place) was once used for pagan rituals.
The open-air Harzer Bergtheater has a summer program of music and plays and a big crowd on Walpurgisnacht (a pagan festival on April 30).
One of the other attractions at the Hexentanzplatz is the Harzbob, a toboggan run that is one of Germany's longest.
The beautiful cliffs near the Hexentanzplatz. The cliffs are prime destinations for postmodern pagans, who flock there on April 30 for Walpurgisnacht. According to local mythology, witches and warlocks gather on Walpurgisnacht at various Harz mountains locations before flying to the Brocken on broomsticks.
A view of the cable cars you take to get from the town of Thale to the Hexentanzplatz.
There is a huge outdoor food court at the top of the Hexentanzplatz, with places like the Teufelsgrill (Devil's Grill) and Hexen-Haus (Witch House).
A view of the town of Thale (and Jim waving) from the chairlift to the Rosstrappe, a cliff opposite the Hexentanzplatz.
