Mainau
is a small island owned by a Swedish count with over 100 acres of flowers. |

Count Lennart, who still lives in the castle. |

| One
of the attractions on the island is a petting zoo, which Jim and Kirsten decided to visit.
Unfortunately, the animals know the food routine, so it was almost impossible to get the food
from the machine as all of the goats swamped you when you tried! |

is about a half hour ferry from Meersburg, where we stayed. |

| Another
recently-added attraction of the island is the Schmetterlinghaus, or Butterfly House.
In the house, you walk around a tropical landscape while thousands of butterflies from different
parts of the world flit around you (some will even land on your hand if you are patient enough!).
Above is one of the many lovely varieties. |
 |
| The
island features plants of all different climates, including palm trees and beach chairs on
its little beach area. Mainau is able to support so many different kinds of plants due to
its unusually warm climate. |
