Our
next stop after the Panama Canal was Guatemala, a beautiful but very
poor place. |

| The
excursion Kirsten did in Guatemala was to the Coffee Finca Plantation.
The gardens near the main house were beautiful and lush. |

The port is one of the busiest in Central America. |

| The
first stop on the Coffee Plantation excursion was at a huge market
in the small town of Palin. The market is located under a huge Ceiba
tree, which is Guatemala's national tree. |
 |
| As
part of our Plantation excursion, we watched a video about coffee
making in the plantation owner's living room! The owner is standing
next to our guide. |

| The
plantation gardens featured not only lush greenery but also a variety
of wildlife, including a huge peacock and these two very friendly
and photogenic macaws. |

close-up of two of the stages that coffee goes through before being
ready for harvest: the small white flowers and larger green beans.
The beans are ready for harvest when they finally turn red. |
