Our next stop after the Panama Canal was Guatemala, a beautiful but very poor place.
The excursion Kirsten did in Guatemala was to the Coffee Finca Plantation. The gardens near the main house were beautiful and lush.
Aunt Jane and Kirsten at the port where our ship was docked, Puerto Quetzal. The port is one of the busiest in Central America.
The first stop on the Coffee Plantation excursion was at a huge market in the small town of Palin. The market is located under a huge Ceiba tree, which is Guatemala's national tree.
As part of our Plantation excursion, we watched a video about coffee making in the plantation owner's living room! The owner is standing next to our guide.
The plantation gardens featured not only lush greenery but also a variety of wildlife, including a huge peacock and these two very friendly and photogenic macaws.
A close-up of two of the stages that coffee goes through before being ready for harvest: the small white flowers and larger green beans. The beans are ready for harvest when they finally turn red.
