Whenever
we mention that we've been on a cruise, people always want to know
what it’s like. So here is a section on the Panama Canal cruise
that Kirsten went on with Mom and Dad Brown and Aunt Jane in April-May
2003. The cruise lasted for 15 days and stopped in ports from the
Caribbean to Mexico, traversing the Panama Canal in between. |

Above is a postcard showing the ms Maasdam, the ship we sailed on.
The Maasdam weighs 55,000 gross tons and is 720 feet long. Among other
things, it has 9 passenger decks, 8 passenger elevators, 15 public
rooms, 2 outdoor swimming pools, a health spa, a movie theater, a
bunch of shops, a library, and a casino. |

Left
is Kirsten’s identification card. Every passenger receives an
ID card for embarking and disembarking the ship, as well as for making
purchases on the ship (it is a “cashless” society, which
means that you don’t have to carry money around with you, but
you also don’t realize how much you’re spending!). |

 |
The Entertainment
staff on the ship kept everyone well informed about all of the activities
going on each day. Each evening we received a Daily Program like
the one to the left which outlined all of the activities, plus gave
more in-depth information about the day’s port of call.
