Whenever we mention that we've been on a cruise, people always want to know what it’s like. So here is a section on the Panama Canal cruise that Kirsten went on with Mom and Dad Brown and Aunt Jane in April-May 2003. The cruise lasted for 15 days and stopped in ports from the Caribbean to Mexico, traversing the Panama Canal in between.

Above is a postcard showing the ms Maasdam, the ship we sailed on. The Maasdam weighs 55,000 gross tons and is 720 feet long. Among other things, it has 9 passenger decks, 8 passenger elevators, 15 public rooms, 2 outdoor swimming pools, a health spa, a movie theater, a bunch of shops, a library, and a casino.
Left is Kirsten’s identification card. Every passenger receives an ID card for embarking and disembarking the ship, as well as for making purchases on the ship (it is a “cashless” society, which means that you don’t have to carry money around with you, but you also don’t realize how much you’re spending!).

The Entertainment staff on the ship kept everyone well informed about all of the activities going on each day. Each evening we received a Daily Program like the one to the left which outlined all of the activities, plus gave more in-depth information about the day’s port of call.
