The
first town we visited was the lovely Bellagio, the hub at the center
of Lake Como. |

| A
view of the main town area of Bellagio. Bellagio has been inhabited
since prehistoric times and was the summer residence of the Roman
patricians. |

view back across the lake from the Villa Melzi gardens. The gardens
are built on the slope of the hill and offer great views. |

| A
view back down one of the main streets in Bellagio. Shopping in Bellagio
requires some effort! There are lots of steps, but also plenty of
shops and cafes to take a rest and drink a cappuccino! |

| A
view back down in the direction of Como from the flowers lining the
shore of Bellagio. The island in the distance is Isola Comacina, the
largest island in the lake. |

| Taking
a rest from the heat in the Villa Melzi gardens. The Villa Gerli is
visible in the distance. It was very hot and humid while we were at
Lake Como, which meant that we took a lot of rests and breaks! |

The Villa was built in 1808 for Duke Francesco Melzi d'Eril, a friend
and political associate of Napolean Bonaparte. |
