The Aran Islands, off the coast of Galway, offer gorgeous scenery and interesting hikes.
A view across the windswept landscape of Inishmór, which was the island we visited. Inishmór is the largest of the three Aran Islands.
Jim peers over the cliffs near Dún Aonghasa, the famous 2000-year-old cliff fort on Inishmór. It is 300 ft straight down!
Kirsten rides her rental bike down the stony track from Dún Árann Heritage Park, at the highest point of the island, south toward the cliffs before heading to Dún Aonghasa.
A slice-of-life on the Aran Islands: cows graze in one of the small farm plots divided by old stone walls. The coast of Galway is barely visible in the distance across the water.
A view west across Inishmór from the tower at Dún Árann Heritage Park at the highest point on the island.
A beautiful Celtic cross marks a grave in a tiny graveyard on Inishmór. Dún Aonghasa fort is barely visible in the distance to the left of the cross.
