In March 2004, Kirsten attended a FAWCO (Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas) Conference in The Hague.
A highlight of the conference was a reception at the Delft Town Hall, hosted by the Mayor of Delft. Here, Irmingard Zahn, Kirsten, and Frauke Rademacher-Heidemann pause for a photo.
Theamazing American Women's Club of the Hague clubhouse. A former grand residence, it has more than 11 rooms including a library, gift shop, nursery, and cafe.
The conference kicked off with a Welcome Reception & Dutch Handicraft and Trade Fair featuring artisans from all different disciplines, including the Royal Delft pottery painter above. Other booths included a diamond seller (who also cleaned everyone’s rings -- a big hit!), a Gouda wafel stand, and a stand with original pen and ink sketches.
The attendees from the American Women's Club of Hamburg (Frauke Rademacher -Heidemann, Kirsten, Irmingard Zahn, Becky Tan, and Barbara Hanley-Meyer) gather in all their finery for a final photo.
One of the highlights of every FAWCO conference are the in-home dinners, hosted by members of the hosting American Women's Club. Kirsten attended an in-home dinner hosted by AWC the Hague member Lamia Nader (far right) and her husband. Also attending were FAWCO Counselor Kay Miller (far left), FAWCO Citizenship chair Dorothy S tage (center), and Helen McNulty (second from right).
Another artisan at the Dutch Handicraft fair, a wooden shoemaker. Also featured at the Reception were typical Dutch cocktail treats -- yum!
