On one of the days, we visited Kefallonia, the largest of the Ionian Greek islands.
One of the many lovely pieces of coastline on Kefallonia. This is a view of the southern end of the island, where we also saw the shrine (left).
Kefallonia had some of the cutest shrines we saw. The inset photo shows the inside of the shrine.
The colorful outdoor seating of the harbor area of the port town of Poros. This shows some of the color that was also displayed in the film Captain Corelli's Mandolin, whose story took place on and which was filmed on the island (although many of the places with buildings shown in the film were film sets created for the film).
Dad and Mom pose for a photo at the seaside restaurant we ate at on Lourda Beach below Vlahata, one of the many British-targeted resorts on the island (as evidenced by everyone speaking English)!
The lovely port of Poros. To get to Kefallonia, we took a ferry from Killini (on the mainland) to the main town of Argostoli, then drove around the southern part of the island to Poros, where we caught another ferry back to Killini. The trip to Argostoli took about 2.5 hours; the trip back from Poros only took 1.25 hours and was more pleasant since the weather had improved from the morning.
A view of the harbor near Poros. There are four towns on Kefallonia where you can catch ferries (Poros, Argostoli, Fiskardo, and Sami) and one airport.
