We spent a day in the grand city of Lyon, strolling around the sights and eating well!
Lyon is especially lovely at night. Here is a photo of the Basilique de Notre Dame de Fourvière on the top right with other buildings reflected in the river.
The photographers (Mom and Kirsten) take advantage of the good light to photograph a scene along the river.
Jim does a "Gypsy" (a move named after our cat) and peeks over the railing of the panoramic terrace next to the Basilique de Notre Dame de Fourvière. You can see almost the whole city from up there!
The stately Place Bellecour with its statue of Louis XIV on the left and the view of the Basilique above with the nearby Tour Métallique (the thing that looks like a small Eiffel Tower).
The ruins (and rebuilt parts) of the Roman theaters in the Vieux Lyon part of the city. The theaters are still used for concerts and have amazing panoramic views of the city. Nearby is a Roman history museum containing artifacts found in the area, including the bronze text of a speech made by the Lyon-born Roman emperor Claudius in 48 AD.
The impressive 14th century astronomical clock in the Cathédrale Saint Jean. The clock puts on an elaborate show of chimes and rotating statues several times a day.
