Our
last stop was Leipzig, the town that stole the 2012 Olympic bid from
Hamburg! |

| The
ornate former trading house, now cultural center, Alte Börse,
with its statue of Goethe out front. Goethe studied law at Leipzig
University. |
| The
lovely Renaissance Altes Rathaus (town hall), built in 1556. It now
houses the very interesting City History Museum. |
| The
interesting passage named Specks Hof, decorated with an unusual series
of tile and stained-glass reliefs by artist Moritz Götze. |
| The
rather ugly (but interesting) bronze diorama depicting Karl Marx and
others on the west side of the Augustusplatz at the entrance to Leipzig
University. |
| A
study in contrasts: a lovely fountain in front of the rather ugly
and boxy Neues Gewandhaus (built in 1981), home to Leipzig's classical
music and jazz concerts. |
| The
inside of the Thomaskirche, all decorated for the German Thanksgiving
celebration. This church was where Bach worked as a cantor from 1723-1750. |
