We went on a four hour walking tour of Budapest -- a great way to see the city!
One of the stations on the historic metro line 1. This line opened in 1896 and is the oldest undergound railway in continental Europe.
The impressive Chain Bridge, which was opened in 1849 and was the first bridge to span the Danube in Hungary.
A castle in the middle of the city? In this case, yes: Vajdahunyad Castle, built in 1896 and partly modelled after a fortress in Transylvania. It now houses the Hungarian Agricultural Museum.
Another view from Castle Hill over the Danube. This is the view of the neo-Gothic Parliament building, built in 1904. The Pest side of Budapest has most of the major buildings, most built in the 19th century.
One of the great walls of the Heroes' Square (Hosök Tere), a great monument erected in 1896 for the millennium of the Magyar conquest of the Carpathian Basin. On the day we visited, it was the starting point for the Budapest Marathon!
The 96m high neo-Renaissance dome of St. Stephen's Basilica. The church is most famous for its Chapel of The Holy Right Hand, which houses the shrivelled remains of the king-saint's hand.
