In May 2002, Jim planned a surprise
five-day trip for us to the Cinque Terre,
an area along the coast of Italy about
an hour and a half from Pisa. |

| The Cinque Terre consists of five towns along the
coast. We stayed in the largest, Monterosso, seen
above in the late afternoon sun. Monterosso is
the only town with an actual beach, although the
water was still quite cold! |

| One of the nice things about the towns
is that they are linked by hiking paths.
Along one of the paths, we saw this creative place to write graffiti -- on a cactus. |

| Cinque Terre is also very popular with
cats (our kind of place)! One of the logos
of the area even features a cat. This cat
we met a good hour from the nearest
town along one of the hiking trails. |
| The hotel we stayed in was 800m above the town
and had stunning views of the coastline. This one
was in the early morning. |
