After
many work visits to Brussels, Jim finally got the chance to do some
sightseeing! |
| We
really enjoyed Mini Europe, a theme park with over 100 mini EU buildings.
Here, Jim stands over the Brussels Grand Place (with the Eiffel Tower
behind). |
| A
lovely corner of the famous Brussels Grand Place. The street sign
is in both Flemish and French, as is everything in Brussels. |
| A
view down the long Boulevard du Jardin Botanique to the Basilica of
the Sacred Heart (Basilica of Koekelberg), which was built to commemorate
the 75th anniversary of Belgian independence. |
| The
distinctive Atomium is left over from the 1958 World's Fair. Nearby
are also a planetarium, an IMAX theater, and Mini Europe. |
| The
main attraction of the Cinquantenaire museum conglomerate, the Triumphal
Arch. Completed in 1905, it was built to serve as a monument to illustrate
Brussels' glorious past. |
| The
Galeries St. Hubert is Europe's oldest glass-covered shopping arcade.
It houses boutiques, restaurants, chocolate shops, and, currently,
lots of decorated cows. |
