While Jim worked on Monday, Kirsten took a nice daytrip to Antwerp, the capital of Flanders.
The Steen, a medieval riverside castle at Steenplein on the River Scheldt. The castle now houses a maritime museum (which was closed that day).
The very colorful Renaissance Town Hall with its large fountain on the Grote Markt. The Markt is also surrounded by guildhouses.
The Groenplaats with the Cathedral of Our Lady in the background. The Cathedral houses three well-known paintings by Rubens including "Descent from the Cross" and "Raising of the Cross".
The Antwerp skyline from the other side of the River Scheldt. There is a pedestrian tunnel under the river that you can take for free to the other side.
